Embedded Systems and Software Portfolio (Click to return to Project list)
Our team tackled the issue of waste disposal, which heavily contributes to global greenhouse gas emissions and our carbon footprint. We created a computer program and a solid model to sort and recycle waste into bins.
In the ENG 1P13 course at McMaster, we applied project-based learning to develop a recycling system using the virtual Quanser labs environment. Our team designed a computer program that adhered to constraints such as the mass and quantity of containers that could be placed on the Q-Bot. We also integrated a colour sensor into the program to ensure high accuracy and account for all test cases.
For the modelling portion of the project, our team used a linear actuator to rotate a recycling hopper that deposits containers into a recycling bin. Our design was reliable and straightforward, successfully depositing all recyclable materials every time.
